ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky– A public meeting is on tap, to educate citizens and answer their questions about the idea of potentially creating a single unified, or “Metro,” government for Hardin County.

With a couple of the state’s fastest-growing cities, Elizabethtown and Radcliff, inside the boundaries, the group “Hardin County United” believes the time is now to start talking about the idea. Consultant Luke Schmidt says that meeting is set for 4:30 Thursday afternoon, in the Performing Arts Center at John Hardin High School.

Schmidt says unified government could pay big dividends for Hardin, creating the state’s 3rd-biggest community behind only Jefferson (Louisville) and Fayette (Lexington) Counties; cut the sheer size of government from 94 existing entities to only 10 to 15; and give the area much more clout in both Frankfort and Washington.
